This past Friday, the Attorney General designated interim US attorney Jay Clayton to head an investigation into political adversaries of Donald Trump and their connections with the late financier. This move came shortly after Trump instructed her to launch the investigation.

In a statement, Bondi commended Jay Clayton as “one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country”. The official stated, “The department will handle this matter promptly and thoroughly to provide clarity for citizens.”

This development appears to contradict a July memo from federal authorities which indicated that documents related to Epstein lacked grounds for further inquiries. According to the memo, authorities “did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties”

The President Demands Focus on Democrats in Epstein Case

The announcement coincides with increasing demands from the president on congressional Republicans to oppose the full release of files concerning Epstein ahead of an upcoming House vote in the coming days. Several lawmakers are anticipated to back the disclosure.

Recently released communications from Epstein have spotlighted Trump’s past involvement with the convicted criminal, including details that he was more aware of Epstein’s actions than earlier acknowledged.

On Friday, the President announced he would direct the Department of Justice to examine connections between Epstein and Democratic figures, specifically naming prominent individuals such as Clinton, Summers, and Hoffman. Paradoxically, Trump also described the “Epstein hoax” as a “scam”.
