Patriots Match Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Over Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs this season
New England matched their longest winning run from the Tom Brady period as they beat division opponents the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Tom Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the Jets bottom after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' opening drive
But the New England responded in the second quarter as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone in the middle of the third period to make it 21 to 7
"That was a big time for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye commented on the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields found Metchie late in the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales booted a two kicks in the final period as the Patriots closed out the victory
