The national team brought an end to the reigning champions South Africa's unbeaten run by achieving a 93-run triumph in an thrilling and closely contested first Test in the city of Lahore.

South Africa, whose 10-match unbeaten run in Test cricket ended with a win against the Aussies in the World Test Championship final in the month of June, were dismissed for 183 chasing 277.

Starting the day on 51-2, they lost first-innings centurion De Zorzi leg before wicket to pace bowler Shaheen Afridi to the third ball of the day to push the tightly balanced run chase in the home team's favor.

Slow left-armer Noman, who took 10-191 in the match, removed Stubbs for two and bowled Dewald Brevis, who put up a fight with a run-a-ball 54.

Off-spinner Sajid also capitalized on significant spin to terminate opener Rickelton's stay - he lasted 145 deliveries for 45 - and Shaheen came back in the post-lunch session to dismiss the tail with a fine display of reverse swing.

He trapped Verreynne lbw for nineteen and dismissed Subrayen and Kagiso Rabada to secure the win.

It was both sides' first match of the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle and propels Pakistan straight into second place behind table-toppers the Australian team.

Their victory was built around key performances of 93 by opening batsman Imam and, crucially, number seven Salman Agha which lifted them to 378.

After that slow bowlers Noman and Sajid took advantage of helpful home pitches, as they had in their Test series win over the English team the previous year, to sustain their lead.

The next and last match begins on October 20.
