Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have encountered a variety of engaging independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a character that is literally a dung striving to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is simple: you only need a one button to leap. In numerous levels, you'll face tough enemies and visit a market to acquire outfits for your dung hero.

Time your actions precisely, as a error requires restarting the level. Leap using floating orbs to launch your character higher, navigate disappearing surfaces, and interact with triggers to reveal hidden paths. Collect currency for buying tougher levels in which the action gets crazy.

Visually, the demo shows off eye-catching stages and catchy soundtrack. The simple art with morphing abstract forms may remind fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to think of similar titles where you are a dung character, gaming frequently incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. Naturally, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already received notable recognition, such as being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on computers in the fall.
